Quick plug for NoMi lead testing

Hey all! I know I just posted an entry, but this is pretty important. There is going to be free lead testing on Saturday, Dec. 3 in the Webber-Camden neighborhood from 9-noon.

Lead poisoning is one of the leading causes of environmental developmental damage to children, and can poison adults as well. For residents of NoMi, testing is especially important because our houses are very old, and one of the more common causes of lead poisoning in children is consumption of lead-based paint.

Click here for all the details, and if you have kids, definitely bring them to this clinic - you won't regret the peace of mind you get from knowing that your kiddos are lead free!

  1. If you own a home built before 1978 you can assume that your home has lead paint. While it is important protect your children and be aware of the potential dangers of lead, once you have your home tested this knowledge becomes a disclosure addendum when you sell your home. Unless you intend on initiating the expensive process of mitigating the lead presence and paying to have your home retested (at your cost), you may not want to participate in this free testing.

  2. Thanks for the tip!

Most health insurances will pay for this testing if you would prefer to keep your results to yourself. If your child is enrolled in Medicare, testing at 3, 6, 9mo, 1yr and 2yrs is mandatory and paid for by Medicare.

If you prefer to do it yourself and pay cash, it's only about $20-30 per child.
